Declare God's Mighty Acts Part 2

The verse for a parent's heart this month is Psalm 145:4

Psalm 78 also tells parents to declare God's mighty acts.
We will not hide them from their children,
but tell to the coming generation
the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might,
and the wonders that he has done.

A Parent's Heart - Declare God's Mighty Acts Psalm 145:4

Artwork by Katie Ziteli
"One generation shall praise Your works to another,
And shall declare Your mighty acts.
" Psalm 145:4 NASB
Print out either a half size or a full size copy of this verse to post in your home and mediate on it this month.

Sometimes I wonder, "What should I be teaching my children?" Psalm 145:4 speaks of one generation praising God's work, and declaring God's mighty acts to another generation.  This gives me a clear goal: to praise God's works and to declare His mighty acts.

Song: “Hear and Obey” from “Gospel Light Preschool CD#1

Turn around, hear the Word of God
Now it’s time to hear the Word of God!

Parent Preparation: Genesis 12:1-7, Galatians 3:6-8, Hebrews 11:8. For further reference read the following “Riches of God’s Grace in the New Covenant” by Walter Cummins pages 1-2, and pages 69-81.

Supplies: Bible, globe or map of world, teaching notes

Day 1
  • Abram was a man in the Bible that obeyed God.  Later God gave him the name Abraham.
  • Abram heard what God said (cup hands) and obeyed it.
  • (Read Genesis 12:1)  God told Abram travel to a place that he had never been.
  • Did Abram obey God? (read Genesis 12:4a)
  • Yes!  He did what God said to do.
  • (Pretend to be Abram with your child.  Pack up clothes and food. Put them on donkeys and camels.  Lead animals to a new land).
Day 2
  • (Read Genesis 12:1)  God told Abram travel to a place that he had never been.
  • (Read Genesis 12:4 and have child repeat after you.) Abram heard what God said, and obeyed.
  • God told also told Abram, “ in you all the families of the earth will be blessed” Genesis 12:3b
  • Good things always happen when we obey God’s Word.
  • (show your child a globe, or a map of the world) How many families are in the whole world?  A lot!  All the families in the world can be blessed because Abram obeyed God.
Day 3
  • (Read Genesis 12:1)  God told Abram travel to a place that he had never been.
  • God told also told Abram, “ in you all the families of the earth will be blessed” Genesis 12:3b
  • (Read Genesis 12:4 and have child repeat after you.)
  • Abram is the great, great, great, great…grandfather of Jesus Christ!  All the families in the wold can believe in Jesus Christ and be saved.  People can become born again. That is a blessing!
Additional Activities:
  • Coloring Page: Color a picture of Abram and Sarai traveling. I used a page from The Really Big Book of Bible Story Coloring Pages. For extra decoration glue fabric and dried beans.  Keep the picture to make a book about people who obeyed God.  Another option is to put craft sticks on the back of the picture to make a puppet.

  • Read More: Read more about Abram/Abraham in a children’s Bible.
