Theme Verse: “For nothing will be impossible with God.” Luke 1:37 NASB, print out verse here.
Or “For no word from God will ever fail.” Luke 1:37 NIV
Song: “I Believe God”
Parent Preparation: Luke 1:26-55, for further preparation read Jesus Christ's Birth and Childhood Teaching Ideas Overview
Supplies: Bible, people figurines for Mary, Gabriel, and Elizabeth, printout of teaching notes
Day 1
- (Read record in a children's Bible or from Luke 1:26-38)
- (Have your child find Mary and the angel Gabriel in a picture).
- People were looking for the savior ever since Adam and Eve sinned. (Show at the front of your Bible Adam and Eve. Flip through the Bible to record in Luke 1).
- We are going to learn how God sent His son Jesus Christ. The first step was that Mary believed.
- God sent an angel to tell Mary something. Angels are messengers for God. They tell people things for God. (Give examples of you telling your child a message to tell someone else.)
- The angel told Mary (read theme verse).
- (Read record in a children's Bible or from Luke 1:26-38)
- The angel told her that she was going to have a baby, the baby would be named Jesus, that God would be the Father and the baby Jesus would be the son of God.
- Mary asked, “I’m not married, so how can I have a baby?”
- The angel told her that God would be the Father, and the baby would be God’s son.
- (Have child repeat theme verse).
- Mary could have said “no, this is impossible”. But instead she believed what the angel told her from God.
Day 3
- (Read record in a children's Bible or from Luke 1:26-38)
- (Have child repeat theme verse).
- Mary went and saw her cousin Elizabeth.
- Elizabeth was happy that God would do what He said He would do.
- Mary praised God for how good He was and how strong and mighty He was. (Read Luke 1:46,47,49)
- Do we ever praise God for how good He is? For how strong and mighty He is?
- Mary believed that God would do what He said he would do. And He did.
Additional Activities:
-Read about John the Baptist’s birth from Luke 1:1-25, 57-80, emphasizing Luke 1:16.
-Teach that one of God’s names is “Most High”, Luke 1:32
- Find a picture of Mary talking with the angel.
- Have your child color or paint the picture. (I used a picture from "The Really Big Book of Bible Story Coloring Pages" by Gospel Light because the angel does not have wings.)
- Attach the Bible verse Luke 1:37. You can write it at the top of the picture or print it out, Luke 1:37, and staple it to the back.
