4 Things To Remember When Reading A Children's Bible - Toddler Tuesday

This is the first "Toddler Tuesday".  Once a month on a Tuesday I will post ideas relating to teaching toddlers the Bible.

1. Don’t Feel Silly
When sitting down to read my toddler from a children's Bible I would at times feel silly.  Just 5 minutes earlier my child was doing something really foolish, like playing in the toilet. Now I'm talking to her about God?  Adults have a hard time grappling with these topics, how is she going to understand?  But then I realized that I don’t need to feel silly teaching my toddler about such big issues.  She won't understand everything right now, but she can start to know a loving God.  She will have a lifetime of growing in understanding of God.  That beautiful journey of understanding can start right now at 1 and 2 years old.  Why wait?
"but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the LORD who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the LORD.” Jeremiah 9:24 ESV

Pleasant Words - Start With Me

Spending all day with my two year old, I often hear words that are whiny, emotional, or demanding.  Since these are not pleasant, I often working to teach my two year old how to  change how she speaks so that it is pleasant.

But what about what comes out of my mouth? How do I respond to her unpleasant words?

"Children Obey Your Parents" Teaching Ideas

As adults, we need the doctrine of what God wants us to believe and obey.  We then need reproof and correction in daily life to continue to walk correctly. Similarly our children need to learn the doctrine of obedience and then we follow up with reproof and correction in daily life.  Then our children can fully gain the wisdom and blessing of obedience.
"The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame." Proverbs 29:15

Theme Verse:Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.” Ephesians 6:1 "obey" - sign for “obey”, "right" - thumbs up

"Peter Obeyed God" Teaching Ideas

What amazing obedience by Peter and the apostles!  It really shows the importance of telling people about Jesus Christ.  Acting out the record really helped my girls to understand what was happening in this record.

Theme Verse:But Peter and the apostles answered, "We must obey God rather than men.” Acts 5:29 ESV
Do sign for “obey”.  This video is very helpful in explaining the sign for "obey".

This month I am looking forward to getting into a "blogging groove". I have lots, and lots of ideas for the blog, but not lots of time.  Because of this, I am working on prioritizing, focusing, and being consistent.  This month you can look for:
