Bible Verses For A Parent's Heart In 2015

1. Grow in Grace
"But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever. Amen." 2 Peter 3:18 KJV
  • Instead of striving to be perfect parents and have perfect kids, we can grow in grace.  We will never achieve the goal of being perfect parents but we can enjoy and grow in God's grace.
  • Our salvation, and our children's salvation isn't based on our perfection, but it is through God's grace in Jesus Christ. "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:" Ephesians 2:8
  • Together with our children we can grow in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. (Check out the teaching series this year "Jesus Christ Our Savior".)
  • For more on this topic read Ephesians 2:1-10, Titus 2:11-15, and Titus 3:4-7

2. There Is Nothing New Under The Sun
"What has been is what will be, and what has been done is what will be done, and there is nothing new under the sun. Is there a thing of which it is said, "See, this is new"? It has been already in the ages before us." Ecclesiastes 1:8-9 ESV
  • People continue to come up with amazing new inventions and technologies. But what people actually do in their lives, even with these technologies, is what people have done in the ages before (we just do it faster and more global).
  • God's Word applies to our lives in this modern age. God's word has help and guidance for us in every area that we make decisions as parents. Including decisions related to technology (screen time, smart phone use, tablet use, computer time, TV shows, video games, etc).
  • "Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man." Ecclesiastes 12:13 KJV
  • For more on this topic read Ecclesiastes 1, 2.

3. The LORD Gives Wisdom
"My son, if you receive my words and treasure up my commandments with you, making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding; yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding;" Proverbs 2:1-6 ESV
  • We need to seek diligently for the wisdom that God has available. And we will find it!
  • We don't have to come up with our own wisdom to impart to our children. "The LORD gives wisdom." When we teach our children God's Word, we are giving them something very valuable.
  • For more read Proverbs 1 and 2.
  • In the coming summer look for more blog posts related to this topic. In August join in and read one chapter of Proverbs each day of the month.
4. Honor Your Father and Mother
"Honor your father and mother" (this is the first commandment with a promise), that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land." Ephesians 6:2-3 ESV
  •  "Honor" here means to hold worthy, a thing of value.
  • In our administration, God tells children as they obey their parents they are also to honor their father and mother.
  • "that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land." This sums up a lot of our desires as parents for our children. We want them to have good, long lives. We need to teach our children how to obey and honor their parents.

With God's grace and wisdom, our families have a great year ahead in 2015!
