"It Is Written" Teaching Ideas




Theme Verse: “And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written” Luke 4:4, printout

Song: “I Have Hidden Your Word” from Hide “Em In Your Heart Volume 2 by Steve Green

Parent Preparation: Pray, Read: Matthew 4:1-11, Mark 1:9-13, Luke 4:1-13, John 10:10, 1 John 1:5, For further reference: ”The Acceptable Year of the Lord” section 3.3 by Walter J. Cummins

Supplies: Bible, heart pouch from Bible verse journal, Bible verse you want your child to learn written on a slip of paper, printout of teaching
Day 1
  • (Read Luke 4:1-13 or related record in children’s Bible) 
  • The Devil was trying to get Jesus to disobey God.
  • How did Jesus answer?
  • (Read theme verse.)
  • Where was it written? The Bible! 
  • Jesus answered with what the Bible says.
  • We can hide God’s Word in our heart, so that we are ready to answer with God’s Word. 
  • (Have child put slip of paper with Bible verse in the in heart pouch.)
Day 2
  • (Read Luke 4:1-13 or related record in children’s Bible) 
  • God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all.
  • God gave us His Word.
  • The devil wants to steal, kill, and destroy.
  • In every situation we see what God’s Word says.
  • We always want to try to answer like Jesus and say “It is written.” 
  • (Have child put slip of paper with Bible verse in the in heart pouch.)
Day 3 
  • (Read Luke 4:1-13 or related record in children’s Bible) Jesus learned the Bible when he was a child. 
  • When he was 12 years old he was in the temple asking and answering questions.
  • He had God’s Word in his heart.  
  • As a child you can learn God’s Word. You can hide it in your heart and say “It is written”.
  • (Have child put slip of paper with Bible verse in the in heart pouch.)

Additional Activities:
 
  • "God Gave His Son" Bible Verse Journal: 1.Print out heart with verse. 2. Cut out heart. 3. Have your child decorate heart. Glue bottom half of heart to piece of paper to make a pouch. 4. Write a Bible verse on a slip of paper (choose one that you want your child to learn).
