Teach Diligently

“Mom, is the Bible true?” my 4 year old daughter asks while scrambling eggs at the stove.
My mind races, “What? How many times have we talked about the Bible being true? Why would she need to ask me that?"

I respond, “Yes, honey the Bible is true. We sometimes read made up stories, but the Bible is true."

She says confidently, “Yeah, like Winnie the Pooh didn’t really happen."

Throughout the day I continued to think about this moment. I realized that with Christmas time we had talked often about what is real and what is pretend, so she was continuing to put things in the right space in her mind.

Also, I was reminded that God tells us to teach diligently in Deuteronomy 6. Children need to hear things over and over again to process, understand and apply. My job is to keep teaching over, and over, and over again.
"And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise." Deuteronomy 6:6-7 ESV

On Thursdays I am posting a Bible verse that can help us as parents teach our children the Bible. Follow on Facebook or Instagram and sign up for my monthly newsletter.
