Spring Idea List For Teaching The Bible

We plant seeds. We celebrate Resurrection Sunday and Pentecost, the birthday of the Church. Plants are sprouting and blooming. We spend more time outside with our children. These activities give us chances to teach our children the Bible in daily life. We can use what our children see and experience in daily life as visuals and reminders of God's Word.

Use Stickers When Teaching The Bible - Short And Sweet

Kids like stickers. Long before I ever had kids of my own, when working as an occupational therapist, if I want to get a child’s attention I would pull out stickers. With my own children I’ve continued to see joy, excitement, and interest when I pull out stickers. This can be a great starting point and also a time of and reinforcement when teaching the Bible.

Goal: Use what your child is interested in as a starting point for teaching your child something from God’s Word. In this case it is something as simple as stickers.

Parent preparation: As you look in God’s Word and pray about what to teach your child, think about if that topic lends itself to using stickers.

What Is A Gift?

Goal: For your child to know that we don't earn the gifts God gives to us
Parent preparation:
  • Read these Bible verses and pick out one to share with your child: John 3:16, Ephesians 2:8, Acts 2:38, and Romans 5:15-17.
  • For further reference read: Luke 11:11-13, Romans 6:20-23
What to do:
  • Talk with your child about the types of gifts he or she is hearing about right now. This might be from songs, kids at school, Christmas movies, or Christmas books.
  • Talk about that some of these things are called "gifts" but are earned because someone is good enough Or other times a "gift" is exchanged because you give something of equal value.
  • Read with your child the Bible verse you chose.
  • Talk about how God doesn't give to us gifts because we earned it by being good enough to deserve it. He doesn't watch us to see if we are bad or good to then decide whether to give us good things. He gives because of His great big enormous love for us.
  • Pray together and thank God for His great love for us in giving Jesus Christ.

Boast In The Lord - Short and Sweet

"Mom, what is boasting?" my 5 year old asked from the backseat of the van. We were listening to a song called "Boast In The Lord" on Joel Micek's CD "Alive Unto You". As my girls and I talked about boasting, I realized that boasting is something that my kids are starting to hear on the play ground and around the lunch table.

Verses: Jeremiah 9:23-24 "Thus says the Lord: "Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the Lord.” ESV

Goal: To learn that boasting in God is the best thing to boast in.
