Since we spend so much time eating with our children, this teaching idea fits well in daily life. This is second in a series of teaching ideas about Jesus Christ's
death, resurrection, and ascension, part of the "Jesus Christ Our Savior" series.
Verse: "Do this in remembrance of me." 1 Corinthians 11:24b ESV
Parent Preparation: Pray. Read: Matthew 26:26-27, Luke 22:19-22, 1 Corinthians 11:23-26
Song: "Thank You Lord" chorus
Teaching Idea:
- Before Jesus died he ate a last supper with his disciples.
- (Read 1 Corinthians 11:23-25 or the record from a children's Bible.)
- Jesus told his disciples that when they eat bread and drink from a cup they were to "Do this in remembrance of me." 1 Corinthians 11:24b ESV
- The bread represented his body and what he accomplished by his suffering and death.
- The cup represented the covenant that was made by shedding of blood. This was for our sins to be forgiven.
Additional ideas:
- When eating a meal this week talk with your child about remembering Christ giving his body and blood while eating and drinking.
- If you and your spouse had communion at your wedding, show your child the pictures of it.
- Talk about what "remembrance" means. Example: To remember our country we have flags and celebrate 4th of July.
- Coloring Pages: 1. A page in The Really Big Book of Bible Story Coloring Pages 2.and a printout at this link.
- Listen to the "He Is Risen" playlist on Spotify.
- Print out Bible verse.
- Color Bible verse.
- Help your child draw a piece of bread and a cup.
