Washing Feet

This is in a series of teaching ideas about Jesus Christ's death, resurrection, and ascension, part of the "Jesus Christ Our Savior" series.

Bible Verse: "I have given you an example” John 13:15
Parent Preparation: Pray. Read: John 13:1-17, John 13:34-35, John 15:9-13, 1 John 3:16, 23
Song:  "Love One Another" by Randall Goodgame on "Sing the Bible Volume 1". Watch the video here.
Teaching Ideas:
  • Jesus ate dinner with his disciples.  The disciples were people that followed Jesus and learned from him.
  • After dinner he washed the feet of each of his disciples with water and a towel.
  • This was a dirty job. In the Bible times they wore sandals and walked on dirt roads.  Their feet would get really dirty.  Jesus was doing a hard job by washing their dirty, smelly feet.
  • After he washed their feet he said (read John 13:12-17)
  • Jesus gave them an example of how to give and be loving to other people.
  • We can follow his example and be loving to other people.
Additional Teaching Ideas:
Bible Verse Journal (to set up your journal see this post)
  • Print the Bible verse page.
  • Color Bible verse.
  • Have your child draw a picture of them doing something loving for someone else.
