This is in a series of teaching ideas about Jesus Christ's
death, resurrection, and ascension, part of the "Jesus Christ Our Savior" series.
Bible Verse: "I have given you an example” John 13:15
Parent Preparation: Pray. Read: John 13:1-17, John 13:34-35, John 15:9-13, 1 John 3:16, 23
Teaching Ideas:
- Jesus ate dinner with his disciples. The disciples were people that followed Jesus and learned from him.
- After dinner he washed the feet of each of his disciples with water and a towel.
- This was a dirty job. In the Bible times they wore sandals and walked on dirt roads. Their feet would get really dirty. Jesus was doing a hard job by washing their dirty, smelly feet.
- After he washed their feet he said (read John 13:12-17)
- Jesus gave them an example of how to give and be loving to other people.
- We can follow his example and be loving to other people.
Additional Teaching Ideas:
- Make a List: Read John 13:17. Make a list with your child of things that they can do to be loving to other people
- Talk with your child about how Jesus was a very important man. He was God’s son. He could have said “I am God’s son, everyone should do things for me!” But instead he was loving to the disciples by washing their feet. Read John 13:14.
- What is love?: Read 1 John 3:16. Jesus Christ showed love to us.
- Songs: "For Us” by Randall Goodgame on "Sing the Bible Volume 1" watch video here, “Be Kind To Everyone” Gospel Light Preschool CD, "This Is How We Know" by Steve Green from Hide 'Em In Your Heart Volume 1 watch video here, "This My Commandment" by Cedarmont Kids watch video here.
- Listen to Spotify "He Is Risen" playlist.
- Coloring: Color a picture from The Really Big Book of Bible Story Coloring Pages

- Print the Bible verse page.
- Color Bible verse.
- Have your child draw a picture of them doing something loving for someone else.
